The Harbourmaster is arguably the most sustainably built and operated public outdoor saunas in The UK.
The Harbourmaster’s interior is built from British thermal treated Poplar and Ash, rather than Nordic-grown timber, or cedar that is shipped across The Atlantic Ocean. The Harbourmaster’s exterior is built from sustainably grown larch from the Scottish Borders.
Designed and built, with elevated benches, to give a better quality of heat and Löyly, to everyone in the sauna, The Harbourmaster is full of little design features.
This is a sauna built to remove physical barriers to entry (no steps to get in, only one very little, low step, at the threshold and little sub-steps, inside the sauna, for people with poor mobility), so as to be as physically accessible to as many people as possible.
The Harbourmaster is also designed to help you appreciate the environment in which it is placed, with huge windows angled towards the setting sun across Elie Bay and a large deck, to sit on and cool down on.
Aligned so that you can enjoy the sunrise on one side and sunset on the other and shelter from the wind, on either side, it is also a place where sauna practitioners can practice without having to comprise their practice.
High ceilings make Aufguss possible and high benches, with push-in lower benches make Lithuanian Leaf-whisking easier.
The Harbourmaster seats 12 guests, comfortably, 14 when booked privately.
Sited on the dune, at the entrance to Elie Harbour, next to The Original Elie Seaside Sauna that seats 6 guests, together, they can be booked for up to 20 guests, complete with 2 separate decked areas where you and your guests can relax and enjoy the view, during your sauna session.
Together both The Original and The Harbourmaster, at Elie Seaside Sauna and their sister saunas at Cellardyke Seaside Sauna and St. Andrews Seaside Sauna, provide a healthy third space, away from climate controlled environments.
Each of these saunas provide places where you can energise yourself in an early morning, or relax and refresh in a late afternoon/early evening sauna session, meet a friend, make fresh connections, or sit in silence and process your very own thoughts and feelings.
Our saunas provide a place to socialise, a place to heal and boast your health and wellbeing, and a spiritual space, to connect with yourself, others and with nature. All in the restful and inspiring Fife Coastal landscape.
In this environment you will find yourself not just a removed observer, but someone, in balance and harmony with that environment, part of the environment that you are in, as dynamic as the elements that you are experiencing, tuned-in to what their senses are telling them and leave with your nervous system reset to analog settings.

Memberships:
We have 3 levels of membership for our regulars, which can be used across our 3 locations – Elie, St Andrews and Cellardyke.
These are non-transferable and must be used by the person who paid for them, as they are a reflection of our gratitude, for regular bookings, from our regular customers.

Private Hire: To hire The Harbourmaster privately, please book all 12 seats. If 12 tickets aren’t available in your desired slot, it means that other people are already booked in. Look for a slot with 12 tickets available.
